“Fungi are a kingdom of life, that has not received a kingdom’s worth of attention.”

Dr. Toby Kiers is the Founder, Executive Director & Chief Scientist of SPUN Underground.

corsica expedition

SPUN Underground went on expedition in Corsica led by its founder, Dr. Toby Kiers, and Dr. Melvin Sheldrake, author of the best-selling Entangled Life, to sample soil and use a revolutionary method to identify mycorrhizal fungi. These organic networks form a symbiotic relationship with over 90% of land plants and support virtually all life on Earth. The trip was a collaboration with Dr. Francis Martin’s team at INRAE & the CNBC (Corsica Botanical Conservation Group), and was covered in a feature by The Atlantic.

Alongside the short documentary, short form clips, and social content, I shot a photograph series (selection below) for The Atlantic article and SPUN Underground’s expedition page.
