UNESCO World Heritage

More than 80% of the world’s population lives under light-polluted skies; a barrier preventing us from experiencing the beauty of the cosmos. The Dutch city of Franeker brought back to the stars to their streets by switching off all the lights in its city, in a collaborative effort with visual artist Daan Roosegaarde and UNESCO Netherlands.

Seeing Stars invites cities worldwide to follow as UNESCO Netherlands aims to recognize the stars as a form of universal heritage.
